The Mounjaro weight loss injection has recently been licensed to be prescribed for weight management; the criteria is very strict on which NHS patients can access this medication.
Criteria:
A BMI of 40 or over (37.5 for those with Black, Asian or middle Eastern ethnicities)
And living with at least four of the five below conditions
1. Type 2 diabetes
2. High blood pressure on treatment
3. Heart attack, angina, stroke, heart failure, peripheral arterial disease (blocked arteries in the legs)
4. On cholesterol lowering medication or significantly abnormal cholesterol readings
5. Obstructive sleep apnoea and eligible for CPAP nighttime mask treatment
If patients do not meet the above criteria, unfortunately you will not have access to Mounjaro injection on the NHS.
